Salary: Range up to $35,000 year/or up to 3,000 month DOE

Work Location: Anchorage, Alaska
The Alaska Teen Media Institute is seeking a Program Director. ATMI is
a Spirit of Youth program that provides hands-on media skills training
for Anchorage high school students. The Program Director is responsible
for program management, oversight and direction and reports to the
Spirit of Youth Executive Director. The Program Director coordinates
peer-to-peer media skills training for youth in urban and rural parts
of the state and the development and coordination of partnerships with
other news organizations and youth groups. The Program Director manages
all adult staff and all teen volunteers and is responsible for the
completion of the following grant-specified deliverables:
• Media skills instruction and support for up to 12 teen participants –
from idea conception through to final production for a variety of media
(radio/web/print/video)
• 6 student-produced monthly, hour-long live “In Other News” programs
on KNBA-90.3.
• 40-minutes of youth-produced content airing statewide on public
radio stations
• At least one special media project: ex. Conference of Young Alaskans
coverage
• Manage self-supported office/studio
• Provide support and 24-hour supervision to youth when traveling
The qualified candidate for this rewarding position will be an
energetic, talented, caring and supportive individual who likes
teenagers and believes in ATMI’s mission to give young people the
training and the opportunity they need to have their voices heard.
Specific qualifications include:
• Journalism experience (BA or equivalent or working toward degree)
• Solid audio editing and production experience (ProTools/Adobe
Audition)
• General media production skills (in video, print and web media)
• Experience with and/or interest in working with teenagers and a
willingness to learn with and from them
• The ability to self-motivate and prioritize
• Organizational, leadership and management skills
• Creativity and flexibility
• Ability to work with diverse populations
