[youthradioleaders] release forms, anyone?

It's Kaari at Radio Rookies. We've also kept last names out of stories,
though we've recently started sending release forms to teachers to send
home to parents when recording in middle & grammar schools. That's
mostly to keep the teachers comfortable.

Thanks for bringing up the topic. I've often wondered how people have
dealt with it!

Hi Kat,

The general rule we use is, as long as the young interviewee is part
of an anonymous vox pop (or even if we're broadcasting their first
name but not their last), we don't need a release. For a more
extended interview, it would technically be advisable to have a
release -- but having the interviewee state on tape that they're
willing to be recorded for broadcast is good too.

This is a tricky area for outLoud Radio especially, since obtaining a
release from the parents of closeted youth isn't usually possible.
I'd love to hear what other groups do.

All best,

Noah
