Hi
I wanted to let you all know about a cool opportunity for young documentary
makers and enthusiasts that I will be helping to facilitate at the Mountain
Film Festival <http://www.mountainfilm.org> in Telluride, Colorado (May
28-31, 2010).
Mountainfilm, Telluride Academy <http://www.tellurideacademy.com> and the
Art + Media House will team up to offer the Making Movies That Matter
Program (formerly called the Aspiring Filmmakers Program) during the
four-day festival weekend. The Making Movies That Matter Program is designed
for junior and senior high school students who are interested in filmmaking
and videography.
Students accepted into the program will follow an engaging itinerary of film
screenings, intimate conversations with filmmakers, and discussions that get
at the intersection of film and activism. Participants will also have the
chance to explore Telluride and do outdoor activities. Students will judge
films to present the special Aspiring Filmmakers award at the closing
picnic.
I will be bringing a group of 4 youth from DC to the festival and I'll be
facilitating the media education component of the program.
Attached is an application which you can submit directly to the Telluride
Academy, but feel free to contact me with any questions.
The cost of the program is $300 and includes a festival pass, food, lodging
and activities. Participants also have to cover their own airfare. However
if the student is from DC they are eligible for the Eric Moe scholarship. If
they want to apply for the scholarship they need to submit their application
to me by March 15, 2010.
For those of you not from DC let me know if you have any interested youth
because I'm happy to help think about how to fundraise to cover the cost of
the trip.
I went last year and it's a pretty awesome festival because it's small.
There are lots of opportunities to meet with film makers and the individuals
featured in many of the documentary films. And it's a group of no more than
15 students and we all stay together in the same house which is fun.
Best,
Tennessee
