[youthradioleaders] Drop That Knowledge: a new book about youth media

Hello All,

I wanted to share the news that Vivian Chávez and I have written a  
book about Youth Radio and the youth media movement as a  
transformative force in journalism, education, and civic action. It's  
called Drop that Knowledge: Youth Radio Stories. From the very  
beginning, the audience we've most wanted to connect with is you:  
fellow producer-educators working at the intersection of youth culture  
and media.

Jones kindly invited me to write a post about the book for Generation  
PRX, which she published here. If you want to learn more about the  
book, you can find lots of info here. And if you happen to be in DC on  
October 12, we'll be doing a special event at the awesome bookstore,  
Busboys and Poets. Youth Radio students will perform live dramatic  
readings (with tape!) of radio stories and talk about the intertwined  
futures of journalism and education with top editors from WAMU and  
NPR's All Things Considered, and PRX CEO Jake Shapiro. The invite is  
attached--we'd love to see you there.

A special note of thanks to Terrascope Youth Radio's marvelous Beverly  
Mire, who lured me off the tenure track and into youth media more than  
ten years ago, and to all of you doing this work from every corner of  
this country. Hope we'll see each other soon.
