Hi all,
We've recently started a youth radio program based in Chapel Hill, NC. This
summer our students produced short, edited work and posted it on PRX. This
fall we'll be running a live show that will feature youth hosts and guests
and some of the edited work we produce. I'm wondering about permission
issues when it comes to airing youth voices--both interviewers and
interviewees. I've been planning to create a blanket consent form for the
parents of all youth who will be involved in producing our show. I also plan
to have the youth guests on our live show get their parents to sign a form
in advance. But it would be great to get some suggestions for the best way
to do this and the sort of language necessary for such a consent form.
I'm also concerned about the complexity of dealing with sensitive issues,
those that high school students may not want to discuss with their parents
but want to discuss with our youth producers (perhaps provided that they
will be anonymous). I'd appreciate any insight into this and/or resources
that could spell some of this out for me.
Best,
Alexander Stephens
