Hi all,

Just wanted to add to this note from Kurt --

In addition to joining our conversation via twitter, if your students have radio or multi-media pieces about gun violence or reacting to the tragedy in Newtown that you'd like to get out to wider audiences, we're happy to help spread the pieces via our website, huffington post and other outlets.

Best,

Rebecca

Subject: [youthradioleaders] #SomethingIsBroken Awareness Campaign

Dear Colleagues,

Like the rest of the country, we've been monitoring the events at Sandy Hook Elementary with great concern.

As a show of support for the victims and families of the elementary school shooting, <http://Youthradio.org> Youthradio.org went dark for the weekend by redirecting all traffic to the <http://somethingisbroken.youthradio.org> following url.

However, the issue of youth violence is not isolated to one appalling tragedy. We would like to start raising awareness surrounding this recurring issue of violence in the lives of our youth.

Youth Radio will be using the <https://twitter.com/search/realtime?q=%23SomethingIsBroken> #SomethingIsBroken twitter hashtag to continue this conversation in the open and highlight the feelings of some of the youth in our community.

We would like to raise the bar on this awareness campaign to make sure youth voices are heard. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. That includes adding to this conversation from your own Twitter accounts using the above hashtags, and informing your youth about the ongoing conversation in case they’d like to join in.

If you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to get in touch with either Kurt Collins (kurt at youthradio.org) or Robyn Gee (robyn at youthradio.org).

Thanks so much!
