Hi Dina,

We also do a lot of work youth radio work with schools and community groups.

I echo Erin's advice about the school. Think of it as their school person is
a coordinator for what the school wants and has to organize. You bring what
you're able to do. If you want to get certain kinds of stories, I think the
best way to propose your class is to have it as it's own media arts/radio
arts course. It may be easier to get it during the school day if you teach
it during a social studies or english class, but then you might not be able
to do the stories that you want to do.

Whatever it is, during school or after school club, it's probably good to be
clear about the skills that the students will gain, an example of the things
that they will be doing, and where their work will be presented. I recommend
that when you start, have releases for the kids and their families to sign.

If you're not charging for the program, it's probably pretty easy to get the
school to agree. You just want to work with youth, and their youth need
more arts programs.

As for "news about a municipality" maybe coming up with a snazzy title or
theme. Like "Where is _______?" and in that blank you put the name of the
municipality, and then what the youth produce somehow speaks to that theme.

If you'd like to talk more, let me know.
